Tropical bonsai are suitable for keeping indoors given the proper light and water conditions.

A bright window sill or a table near a window with good light is the best choice for your tropical or semi-tropical bonsai.

Another choice would be to use artificial lighting such as florescent or "grow lights."

Tropical bonsai thrive in high humidity. In the winter months when heaters are used in the home misting or a humidifier will be beneficial.

An alternative method is to set your bonsai on a tray of gravel with water added to below the gravel surface.

Check your tree daily to see if water is needed. Allowing the soil to appear dry on the surface before watering.

There are two methods of watering: by immersion or overhead.

The immersion method is to place the bonsai in a dishpan or sink with water level up only to the rim of the pot allowing the water to soak up through the drainage holes.

Saturation is complete when the soil surface is damp, usually about ten minutes.

Overhead watering is done using a fine spray applying repeatedly 3-4 times so the roots are soaked. Always mist the surface before applying water from overhead or too much runoff will occur.

Remember that the more light your tree receives the more water will be needed.

Your tree should bet at least four hours of bright light each day to maintain good health.

Use a mild water soluble fertilizer such as 10-15-10 at 1/2 strength once a month.
